Outdated education system

KARACHI:

The matriculation system of education deserves urgent attention from policymakers, educators and society as a whole. The matriculation system prioritises rote memorisation and standardised testing over critical thinking, problem-solving and creativity. Students are often burdened with a rigid syllabus and pressured to excel in exams that assess their ability to recall information rather than understand and innovate. This one-size-fits-all approach leaves little room for imagination, exploration or the pursuit of diverse talents.

Studies show that creative thinking is vital for success in today’s world, where adaptability and innovation drive progress. However, by focusing solely on grades, we risk producing graduates who lack essential skills to thrive in the modern workforce or contribute meaningfully to society.

Educational authorities should reform the matriculation system by integrating project-based learning, encouraging extracurricular activities and fostering a culture that values creativity alongside academic achievement. It is crucial to create an environment where students can discover their passions and develop their full potential.
