Plastic pollution has reached alarming levels in Pakistan, affecting our environment and threatening marine life. With limited waste management systems in our country, plastic waste accumulates in our rivers, parks and beaches, posing serious health risks to lives.
One significant issue is the public’s dependence on single-use plastics, such as shopping bags, bottles and wrappers, which take hundreds of years to decompose. Recycling facilities are scarce, and public awareness of sustainable alternatives is minimal, leading to waste accumulation.
The government must take a decisive action to reduce plastic usage by implementing bans on single-use plastics and encouraging biodegradable options. Public awareness campaigns should promote recycling and sustainable choices, and businesses should be incentivised to adopt eco-friendly practices. Let’s work together to reduce plastic waste and protect our environment for future generations.
