Sailing towards equality

The world has indeed shrunk into a global village, where nations are vigorously striving to fortify their economic and military prowess. Pakistan proudly boasts a formidable army, comprising three primary branches: the Infantry, Air Force and Navy. Since childhood, many young individuals, including myself, have harboured a passion to join the Pakistan Army, demonstrating an unwavering loyalty to our motherland.
However, it is disconcerting to note that despite women being recruited into the army and air force, they are excluded from the naval forces and combat branches. The reasoning behind this restriction remains shrouded in mystery. I recently had the opportunity to converse with a bright and ambitious young woman who expressed her ardent desire to become a naval officer. Her diligence and perseverance were commendable, but she was disheartened to discover that women are not recruited into the Pakistan Navy.
This encounter prompted me to investigate whether this restriction is unique to Pakistan or a global phenomenon. My research revealed that countries like the United States, New Zealand and Australia have successfully integrated women into their naval forces, contributing significantly to their nations’ development.
It’s imperative to recognise that Pakistan is also home to talented and dedicated women who are eager to contribute to the country’s progress and protection. Therefore, I propose that a more inclusive recruitment process be established, providing opportunities for women to join the navy and participate in the betterment of our beloved country.
It is essential to tap into the potential of our female population and provide them with avenues to serve the nation. By doing so, we can foster a more inclusive and equitable society, ultimately strengthening our country’s development and defence.
