Our beloved country offers countless amenities to its citizens, including a rare privilege – four distinct seasons – enjoyed by few nations worldwide. However, it’s often perceived that this country caters exclusively to those with influential connections; and to some extent, this notion holds truth. For individuals with such ties, this land is a paradise where their fingers are in every pie.
Regrettably, systemic flaws persist, as evidenced by the recurring leakage of sensitive documents, such as the MDCAT paper. Despite challenges, convictions are scarce, allowing these breaches to continue unchecked. The adage ‘no money, no job’ rings true, as opportunities seem reserved for those who can afford to grease palms, regardless of moral implications. This pressing issue demands thoughtful discussion.
The pursuit of justice is frequently hindered, with complainants facing delayed verdicts. Moreover, convicted accused individuals sometimes secure acquittals, only to reveal that the sentence had already been carried out. This glaring fault raises numerous questions, but unfortunately, remains shrouded in silence.
The elite operate under a different set of rules; when they err, they swiftly receive reprieve, as exemplified by past cases. A disturbing trend emerges where high-ranking officials, politicians and elite individuals depart the country post-retirement or when controversy strikes. Many book their exit strategy on the eve of retirement. It begs the question: why do these individuals, who benefited from the country’s highest honours and positions, abandon it forever? The answer, sadly, suggests a lack of patriotism.
To address this, legislation should be enacted to restrict immediate post-retirement emigration, allowing for temporary visits but mandating return. Non-compliance should incur substantial fines and property forfeiture. Such laws would give would-be expats pause for thought. By implementing these measures, we can curb the brain drain, foster accountability, and promote a culture of loyalty among those who have benefited from our nation’s bounty.
