Trump vs Harris

Trump vs Harris

As the United States gears up for the 2024 presidential race, the contest between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris has captured global attention. This election not only holds significance for the US but also has far-reaching implications for countries like Pakistan.
Under Trump’s previous administration, US-Pakistan relations were marked by volatility, with a focus on pressure tactics regarding Pakistan’s role in Afghanistan and a push for stronger alliances with India. A Trump win might indicate a return to that assertive stance, potentially sidelining Pakistan in favour of other regional priorities. On the economic front, Trump’s policies toward trade and aid could impact Pakistan’s economic growth, especially given the current challenges Pakistan faces.
On the other hand, Kamala Harris represents a continuation of the Biden administration’s more diplomatic approach, which emphasises cooperation on shared issues like climate change and counter-terrorism. However, Harris’s strong stance on human rights, particularly regarding minorities, could pressure Pakistan to address its own human rights record more closely. Additionally, Harris has previously voiced support for India, which may shape her policies toward Pakistan if she assumes office.
For Pakistan, the 2024 US election will be crucial in determining its diplomatic, security and economic relations with one of the world’s most powerful nations. As voters in America decide, Pakistan too will be watching closely, as the election’s outcome could shape the future of US-Pakistan relations for years to come.
