UN’s failure

UN’s failure

KARACHI:

The original mission of the UN was to prevent wars and foster global peace. In today’s world, it is critical for the UN to tackle the increasing number of urgent global issues. The organisation must prioritise resolving the ongoing genocide in Gaza, the alarming human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) by Indian forces, Israel’s aggressive actions against Lebanon, and the escalating Islamophobia and extremist ideologies around the world. Climate change and economic instability in developing nations also pose significant threats to international peace.
Regrettably, the UN has been ineffective in addressing long-standing issues like Palestine and Kashmir, despite the existence of resolutions. The influence exerted by powerful countries like the US and its allies has compromised the UN’s credibility, diminishing its role as an unbiased global arbiter. Additionally, the UN’s efforts to combat climate change and address the economic hardships of the Global South have fallen short, further undermining its reputation as a force for global good.
