Chikungunya outbreak

Chikungunya outbreak

The health of a nation is the cornerstone of its progress, but inadequate healthcare systems can bring even the strongest economies to their knees. In Sindh, the recent rains have exacerbated an already dire situation by contributing to a Chikungunya outbreak, which has caused a 12-day health disruption.
Chronic mismanagement of the disease, coupled with rising cases since its emergence between 2016 and 2017, threatens to push the province’s fragile healthcare system to the brink. The epidemic has particularly affected the workforce, leading to economic hardships. Immediate and accurate diagnosis coupled with timely treatment is critical to prevent a rising death toll and alleviate the economic strain on the province.
