This is partly because businesses look to cut costs, knowing there’s a large pool of job seekers competing for limited opportunities.

Schools could emphasise hands-on training to better prepare graduates for real-world roles, while companies must recognise that fair wages build a motivated workforce. Government incentives for fair-pay practices could also encourage companies to compensate skilled workers appropriately.
