US diplomacy is being tested amid the continuing crisis in West Asia as tensions between Israel, Iran and Hezbollah intensify. American diplomacy in West Asia has been a delicate balancing act; and above all the Biden administration’s move will be crucial in determining the region’s stability.
It is no less than a tight rope walk for the Biden administration: on the one hand it is committed to support Israel and on the other it must bring a full stop to this conflict before it turns into a full-scale war. All that highlights how difficult the balance can be for all the players involved in the game.
The conflict is posing a greater challenge to US interests in the region as it is also hints at the waning American influence. On the US part, not only diplomatic efforts are required to contain the conflict, but there is also the need to engage with regional powers such as Saudi Arabia and the UAE so that tensions don’t escalate further. It remains to be seen how the Biden administration navigates this volatile landscape as the US is facing a critical moment in West Asia diplomacy.
