Transport fares

Transport fares

Traveling within Karachi has become a great problem due to traffic issues, congestion and no plan of government to resolve this issue amidst privilege of prolonged regime. Recently, I had to travel from Nursery to Al-Asif square bus terminal in evening — a high time for dense traffic at almost every road of the city. The busses and public transport is not allowed to enter the city these days and strict compliance with this decision has created a tremendous fatigue for people travelling up to Al-Asif square instead of Taj Complex, Karachi Cantt or any public transport terminal inside the city.
After reaching Al-Asif square, I witnessed unrest between a large number of passengers and booking agents of different transport services everywhere due to the increased fares. Despite the falling POL prices, the public transport fares have remained intact due to no vigilance or implementation from the authorities across Sindh. I wondered if the authorities can strictly implement the decision of banning entrance of public transport inside the city, why they are not working to implement check and balance on transport fares, enabling transporters to charge heavy fares as per their own choice.
In this regard, the Deputy Commissioner Kashmore had conducted a meeting on Sept 21 with transporters and regional transport authorities and strictly ordered assistant commissioners to ensure implementation of decided fares and display of fares at terminals and vehicles in the district. Such initiative is highly praiseworthy if implemented in real terms. The Sindh High Court is requested to take notice of the inefficiency and idleness of the relevant concerned.
