Sohbatpur is home to at least 240,106 people, according to the digital census held in 2023. Located in Balochistan, Sohbatpur also holds the status of a district which it obtained in May 2013. However, it is quite unfortunate to mention that people living in Sohbatpur are suffering from numerous problems. The absence of a university is one of them. A significant number of students have had to quit studies after passing intermediate, as they cannot afford the expenses of living in any nearby city for the sake of attending university. A very small number of students leave Sohbatpur for acquiring higher education.
It is heart-wrenching to mention here that I am the only student from Sohbatpur among the hundreds of my class fellows who has succeeded to go out of the town for receiving higher education. It is even more saddening to state here that many of my fellows are now working as labourers in Sohbatpur while many others are sitting idle at home, having nothing to do.
I, therefore, believe that the establishment of a university in district Sohbatpur is the need of the hour. It will be helpful not just for the students residing in Sohbatpur but will those living in the nearby towns and villages. The relevant authorities, especially Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Ahmed Bugti, should take notice of the situation and lay the foundation of a university in Sohbatpur as early as possible. Establishment of a university in Sohbatpur will not only improve the standard of education in the district, but will also help the country in terms of socio-economic uplift.
