In the last two years, Pakistan has faced an unprecedented political crisis that is shaping the minds of its youth in alarming ways. The country is gripped by political instability, with fundamental human rights being violated. This troubling trend has raised serious concerns about the long-term impact on the nation, especially on its youth.
One of the most concerning aspects of this situation is the growing imbalance of power within state’s institutions. Certain institutions appear to be amassing more influence, while others, including democratic pillars like the judiciary, are being systematically weakened. The attack on democracy has set dangerous precedent, showing that the judicial system is powerless in the face of intervention from powerful quarters. This erosion of the rule of law sends a disturbing message to the youth of Pakistan: might is right, and power trumps justice. In an environment where opportunities are scarce and the state appears indifferent to their plight, the youth are left disillusioned. The weakening of democratic norms and the failure of the justice system to hold those in power accountable have left a grim outlook on the country’s future. The message they are receiving is that whoever holds power can act with impunity.
It is imperative that those in power reassess their actions. The current trajectory of political repression, institutional imbalance and disregard for democratic principles is harming Pakistan. The youth deserves better. They deserve a country where justice prevails, where democratic norms are respected. In the long run, if this cycle of instability continues, it will not only damage Pakistan’s democratic fabric but will also leave its youth disillusioned.
