KARACHI:
As a society, we have a responsibility to protect all living beings. Yet, far too often, animals are subjected to unimaginable cruelty. This is not only morally wrong but is also a violation of the ethical standards we should uphold.
Animal torture can take many forms, from physical abuse and neglect to inhumane practices in industries such as factory farming, entertainment and experimentation. These innocent creatures, who cannot defend themselves, endure immense suffering at the hands of humans. It is our duty to advocate for stronger laws and more rigorous enforcement to ensure their protection. The pain and fear that animals experience when they are tortured are no different from what humans would feel in similar circumstances. This cruelty not only causes immense suffering to animals but also desensitises individuals to violence and fosters a culture of disregard for life. There is thus the need to take immediate and effective action to prevent and punish acts of animal torture. This includes supporting legislation that strengthens animal protection laws; funding organisations that rescue and rehabilitate abused animals; and raising awareness about the importance of treating all living beings with compassion and respect. We must recognise that animals are sentient beings with the right to live free from pain and suffering. By taking a stand against animal torture, we affirm our commitment to a more humane and just world.
