Impact of money and power

KARACHI:

Money and power can dramatically alter an individual’s behaviour, relationships and outlook on life. While they bring many benefits, they can also lead to negative changes, making people disconnected from others.
For some, acquiring wealth and influence boosts confidence, but this can quickly evolve into arrogance. They may begin to look down on others, believing they are more deserving of respect and privileges. Social circles shift, and those who once seemed humble may become increasingly dismissive of those they perceive as “less successful.” However, not everyone is transformed negatively. Some individuals remain grounded, using their resources to help others and bring positive change. For them, money and power are tools for empowerment, not a reason to distance themselves from society. On the darker side, wealth and influence can lead to moral emptiness. People may prioritise material possessions over relationships and become ruthless in their pursuit of power. Corruption and exploitation soon follow, which eventually creates a disconnect from family, friend, and loved ones.
In the end, while money and power can change one’s social status and opportunities, they often alter one’s identity. Not everyone succumbs to these changes, but it is a common and cautionary tale that must be told. The onus lies on individuals on how they conduct themselves during such circumstances.
