Monsoon woes

KARACHI:

The recent monsoon spell has been wreaking havoc in Hyderabad over the past few days. Streets and neighbourhoods are inundated with contaminated water, creating unbearable conditions for residents. The heavy rains have left the people struggling with numerous challenges, such as the lack of access to clean water for bathing and the near impossibility of leaving their homes.

At this critical juncture, the failure of the city’s management is glaringly evident. The drainage system has not been maintained and, as a result litter, is mixing with rainwater leading to serious health concerns. Open manholes pose a significant danger especially to children who risk falling into them.

Dengue fever is exacerbated by the stagnant, polluted water that becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Immediate and sincere efforts are needed to address these issues and protect the city’s residents. The city management must wake up from its deep slumber and take swift action to resolve the problems that are causing so much distress.
