KARACHI:
The political situation in Bangladesh has recently become increasingly concerning. According to reports from Indian mainstream media, a massive student uprising against the government led to violent clashes between government forces and students. The conflict between the government and students initially arose due to dissatisfaction with the quota system in civil services. Reports suggest that approximately 300 students and police officers have been killed, with many more injured. The intensity of the protests eventually forced Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to leave the country and flee.
Following this, the President of Bangladesh dissolved the National Assembly, and the military temporarily took control of the government. The army, in collaboration with student leaders, has decided to establish an interim or caretaker government. Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus has been nominated as the head of this interim government. Across the country, Bengali students and citizens are celebrating this significant moment, viewing it as a new chapter in their national independence.
