KARACHI:
The Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) for this year is now scheduled to be held on September 22 across Pakistan. Every year thousands of candidates appear in this exam with the ambition to pursue a career in the field of medicine. Undoubtedly, there was a time when MDCAT was ranked as one of the toughest exams in Pakistan. But, it is unfortunate to mention that this exam has lost its credibility for a variety of reasons. In 2023, the genuine MDCAT paper was roaming on social media apps a night before the exam was scheduled. It was also reported that a large sum of money had been extorted to distort the dreams of thousands of students. The previous MDCAT was rescheduled thrice in Sindh and twice across Pakistan. These unfair practices are a big distraction for many students dreaming to join the medical field. The revenant authorities must intervene and ensure MDCAT’s fairness and transparency. It is time to take action.
