KARACHI:
The transportation system in Gilgit-Baltistan is in urgent need of an upgrade. We cannot afford to have people risking their lives every time they travel. The federal government as well as the relevant authorities in G-B must ensure that the transportation system is safe and reliable.
I once traveled from Gilgit to Rawalpindi by bus. It was indeed a nightmarish experience due to the deplorable condition of the vehicle. It is about time to prioritise the safety of the passengers at whatever cost it comes. Accidents like the one that occurred on May 3 — in which 20 people lost their lives and 21 others were injured — must never recur.
