KARACHI:
There are reports that the incumbent government has shown its intention to privatise State Life Insurance Corporation (SLIC) despite that fact that it is among the profit-making state-owned entities (SOEs). The SLIC had a record breaking performance in 2023, and the government would be well-advised to delist SLIC from the privatisation list. Moreover, the government has also reportedly decided to privatise Pakistan Reinsurance Corporation (PRC) which also appears to be an unwise decision and needs an immediate review. It is pertinent to mention here that PRC is the only SoE which is providing reinsurance services to the insurance companies in the country.
