It is concerning to mention that Pakistan’s Higher Education Commission (HEC) does not recognise degrees obtained online. It has been four months since I submitted with HEC my foreign degree — which I completed from one of the top 50 universities in the world while I was abroad — for an equivalency certificate. I have now learned that HEC has not granted equivalence to online degrees since July 2023 due to some internal policy issues. Apparently, some individuals in the HEC do not want to grant equivalence to PhD degrees for reasons known only to them. As a result, this issue has remained unresolved for the past 10 months.
