KARACHI:
The persistently low grain prices are adversely affecting the farmers’ community. The current situation is not only threatening the livelihoods of farmers but also jeopardising the future of agriculture in our region. Despite the tireless efforts of our community members to produce high-quality grains, we are facing financial hardships due to the depressed market prices. Market prices for wheat have declined to Rs3,000 per 40kg. These low prices do not reflect the true value of our hardwork, dedication and the significant investments our community makes in the farms.
It is imperative for policymakers, agricultural organisations and stakeholders to come together and find sustainable solutions to address this pressing issue. Immediate action is needed to ensure fair pricing mechanisms, provide financial support and promote market access for farmers. I urge our policymakers to prioritise the well-being of the farmers’ community and take decisive actions to ensure transparent pricing policy during these challenging times. Farmers are the backbone of the national economy and food security, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure their success and prosperity.
