KARACHI:
Chitral is flooded again this year. Countless homes, businesses and roads are destroyed in the catastrophe. Landslides, in addition, have left tourists stranded in Chitral during Eid.
Although the district administration and emergency agencies are leaving no stone unturned to facilitate the residents and tourists, it is not enough. The situation is deteriorating every passing day.
The provincial and federal governments should focus on these regions where a plethora of people lose their homes and sources of income every year. Not showing seriousness by establishing dedicated disaster management departments in these climate-prone areas is augmenting austerity. Special attention is needed from the government for this area, otherwise life here will be impossible in the future due to the deteriorating living conditions.
It has been at least five years since this place became more vulnerable to climate change. It is a humble and desperate request to all the concerned departments to pay attention to the challenges of the residents of Chitral.
