The faculty of the University of Karachi extends heartfelt appreciation for the distinguished recognition bestowed upon Professor Dr Saima Saleem. Her recent accolade as the Woman of the Year 2024 by the Russian House in Pakistan fills us with immense pride.

Dr Saleem is a Professor at Dr AQ Khan Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (KIBGE), University of Karachi. She holds a PhD in Biochemistry from University of Karachi and a Post Doctorate in Biomedical Sciences from Ohio University, USA. With over 18 years of teaching experience, her expertise spans across various fields, including Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, and Genetic Engineering. Her proficiency in biosafety and biosecurity training is also noteworthy, as she serves as an international BioRisk Master Trainer. Moreover, she holds leadership roles in esteemed organisations such as the American Association for Cancer Education and the Pakistan Biological Safety Association. Her research endeavours focus on Cancer Biology and Thrombosis, aiming to devise innovative methods for early diagnosis and treatment.

Her leadership as the Secretary of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World — Pakistan National Chapter reinforces her status as a guiding figure in our academic community.

Moreover, the acknowledgment of Dr Saleem’s contributions by the Russian Centre for Science and Culture highlights the significance of international collaboration in advancing scientific progress and cultural understanding.

Dr Saleem’s designation as the Woman of the Year is a testament to her outstanding contributions to scientific inquiry and gender empowerment. Her groundbreaking research in biological sciences and commitment to fostering women’s participation in STEM have earned her the highest commendation.

As a distinguished faculty member, Dr Saleem embodies academic rigour and innovation, pushing the boundaries of knowledge in biotechnological and genetic engineering domains, especially as inspiration for women. We highly commend her for her transformative contributions to the scientific community.
