Tharparkar: unknown facts

KARACHI:

During a recent visit to Tharparkar, I stumbled upon an inspirational occurring. In a far-flung village in Nagarparkar Tehsil of Tharparkar, called Sumit, reside two teachers as a shining example of commitment and dedication. These teachers hail from another village situated 20km away. The local teachers narrated that they live in this village for a week and teach here with full dedication. They said that if they wanted to travel to and from the village of their residence on daily basis, they might not be able to reach on time.

The teachers teach all the subjects and follow a stringent schedule of co- and extra-curricular activities. From a video shared by other teachers and word of mouth, it was clear that the quality of education in this remote village of Tharparkar was on a par with other reasonably better schools in the region because the teachers themselves were well-educated.

Moreover, the local teachers and parents shared that the school does not have electricity and water nor are there other basic facilities, yet the two teachers ensured that all their academic and professional energies were dedicated to providing quality education to the children of this area. However, unfortunately, there is no encouragement or reimbursement or even provision of missing facilities by the Education Department. The concerned authorities must pay attention to these far-flung areas and conduct regular field visits so they can learn what the locals are doing for their people.
