Kashmore needs attention

KARACHI:

Kashmore is an important district of Sindh. It is one of the largest contributors to Pakistan’s agricultural, fishing and poultry industry due to rich water and farming resources. Unfortunately, the district has earned bad reputation due to hosting the largest number of crimes and criminals. The recent murder of a primary schoolteacher has further aggravated the district’s sensitivity. The district is also a refuge base for criminals who own heavy illegal weapons and are part of banned outfits spread along the Indus belt.

What is more unfortunate is police’s involvement and indifference in this plight. There are no adequate and appropriate crime control mechanisms in place that can be relied on. The dark deserted streets of the district are left unattended by the police and despite a high crime rate, no police surveillance is intact to monitor the region putting the safety of residents at stake.

Moreover, the local police are also reported and accused of involvement in most of the crimes. For example, in some of the last few operations, some crime chiefs were arrested by law enforcement agencies, but the politicians in charge of the region asserted notable influence on the police to release some prominent criminals associated with certain political parties.

The residents of Kashmore seem to have lost hope in legislative and human rights intervention. They have accepted their fate and submitted to the will of regional mafia that will continue to rule over law and justice.
