KARACHI:
The Government Girls Degree College Turbat has a huge number of students, but it is facing crisis in providing local transport for students’ commute, especially the students of rural areas like Kassak, Shahrak, Shapuk, Saami, Herronk and the adjoining areas. These areas are approximately 60km away from Turbat city. After a long struggle back in 2017, a bus was given for these areas which worked as a golden chance for the female students to continue their education. Unfortunately, it could only run for three years due to funding issues. As a result, a large number of female students have had to drop out. Those who still commute by private means face a lot of difficulty because the long distance makes it extremely difficult for their male family members responsible for their commute, to cover the distance daily along with other domestic responsibilities.
Therefore, I ask the Deputy Commissioner of Kech and other relevant authorities to fix the transportation issue of the college as soon as possible so that female students continue their education with the same pace. This is a small step in ensuring and promoting girls’ education in Pakistan. Once these small-scale matters are resolved, bigger issues can then come to the fore and call for action.
