Operation in Katcha

Operation in Katcha

KARACHI:

Dacoits in interior parts of Sindh have become a nuisance and gone beyond the control of security agencies. Lawlessness in riverine (Katcha) areas of Shikarpur, Khairpur, Ghotki and southern Punjab have given complete sovereignty to certain dacoit tribes. Crimes like kidnapping, mugging, killing and rape are common in these regions making survival extremely difficult for the residents. Operations and crackdowns in these regions have been underway for several years now, but all in vain. Crime cases end up fizzling out with no end result. Therefore, the socio-economic conditions continue to deteriorate while the law enforcement agencies show utmost inefficiency.

The plight calls for urgent attention by the provincial government. These katcha areas must at once be intervened. Surveillance cameras, patrol units, rebuilding of infrastructure and awareness of the local communities should be planned and implemented. Modern technology must be made use of and drone cameras must be installed for deep and uninterrupted surveillance.
