Clean energy

KARACHI:

Clean energy is a beacon in a world grappling with climate change, reducing emissions and addressing energy disparities. Currently, 675 million people, predominantly in Sub-Saharan Africa, lack access to reliable power, hindering education, healthcare and economic opportunities. The link between clean energy, socio-economic development and environmental sustainability is critical for these vulnerable populations, especially in regions still dependent on polluting fossil fuels. To limit climate change, a shift towards clean, accessible, affordable, sustainable and reliable energy sources is imperative.

The International Day of Clean Energy (IDCE) marks a historic occasion emphasising the need to raise awareness for a fair transition to clean energy. Commemorating the founding of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in 2009, this inaugural IDCE holds significance as a milestone in the pursuit of a sustainable and cleaner energy future. IDCE provides an opportunity to raise awareness about clean energy’s critical role in addressing climate change, energy inequality and environmental degradation contributing to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 7 by 2030.

Clean energy empowers communities by providing reliable and sustainable power fostering socio-economic development. The celebration emphasises the global commitment to combat climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The day encourages international cooperation in advancing clean energy technologies and policies, acting as a catalyst for collaboration between nations, organisations and individuals. The inaugural IDCE marks a significant moment for the global community to unite and celebrate clean energy’s benefits. Through educational initiatives, community engagement, policy advocacy and collaborative projects, participants actively contribute to a sustainable and equitable energy future. This collective call to action encourages efforts worldwide, ensuring a brighter and more equitable future for all.
