Soaring inflation

Letter January 13, 2024
Soaring inflation

KARACHI:

The current inflation rate in Pakistan is negatively impacting both economic growth and the well-being of citizens. Basic expenses like oil, grains and gas have risen rapidly, causing hardships for ordinary people. In November 2023, the annual inflation rate in Pakistan increased to 29.2% up from 26.9% in October, with food inflation reaching 28%, compared to 26.8% the previous month. These rising prices present a significant challenge for the public making it hard for them to afford essential goods. I urge the government to promptly address this crisis by implementing measures to provide relief and stabilise the country’s economic situation.
