Uplifting the youth

Uplifting the youth

KARACHI:

As we approach elections, it is evident that politicians commonly use the term “youth” to appeal to young voters. However, they have yet to clearly articulate plans or schemes to uplift the youth. With over 60% of Pakistan’s population under the age of 30, a significant portion of the population is both productive and active. Unfortunately, this demographic surplus remains largely untapped.

Historically, governments have not adequately prioritised the youth, prompting many young individuals to seek better opportunities abroad. While politicians frequently mention the need to enhance youth potential, there has been a lack of a concrete reform agenda. To address this, politicians should directly engage with the youth through social media platforms, webinars and other digital spaces.

Recently, the World Bank invited young individuals to share their perspectives on fostering a brighter and more prosperous Pakistan. During this engagement, the youth not only highlighted the challenges impeding Pakistan’s progress but also expressed their eagerness to solve these issues. Policymakers must take proactive measures that encourage the involvement of our youth in the country’s development to prevent brain drain and uplift our younger generations.
