Before elections

Letter December 07, 2023
Before elections

KARACHI:

The Election Commission of Pakistan has announced the date for the general elections. This opportunity to cast votes for candidates capable of addressing the contemporary issues faced by the people should not be taken for granted. Rather than succumbing to politicians’ false promises and blindly casting our votes, we must scrutinise each party’s manifestos and policy agendas.

This way, we can bring the right people to the forefront to lift us out of the quagmire we have been sinking into for many years. We have the power to determine the course of the country for the next five years. Therefore, we must cast our votes responsibly and elect candidates genuinely committed to working for the welfare of the people. Otherwise, we risk finding ourselves in hot water once again. Casting aspersions on politicians will not be beneficial for us.

I request everyone reading this to exercise caution before casting their votes, echoing Bacon’s wisdom that ‘opportunity knocks at your door only once.’ Thorough research must be conducted on the candidates’ past performance before entrusting them with another five years of responsibility.
