G-B under attack

Letter December 05, 2023
G-B under attack

KARACHI:

The Chilas district in Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) has been a focal point for the intermittent killing of passengers from various parts of the region for decades. Once again, unknown armed men have created an atmosphere of mourning for many families with the recent attack on a passenger bus resulting in the death of 8 people and injuring 26 others.

For decades, the people in G-B have been struggling for their rights and safety. Over the years, many innocent residents have been killed because of political, strategic and personal motives. The perpetrators of the recent act of barbarism escaped afterwards. The evident intention was to sabotage peace in the region. Why does the government consistently endure the humiliation of failing to hold the culprits accountable?

There is a noticeable delay in delivering justice to the innocent victims and their families. We hope that the government and other concerned authorities will act promptly to provide justice. The residents of G-B are tired of terrorism and the lack of decorum in the region. Those in leadership positions must reflect on the tranquility of their own homes and imagine them turning into chaos. The government should urgently address this tragedy and all the criminals involved must be brought to justice.
