LAHORE:
As a concerned resident of Lahore, I pen this down to express my deep concern regarding the escalating smog crisis in our city. The recent surge in air pollution and smog demands urgent attention and concerted efforts from authorities and the community alike.
The debilitating effects of smog on our health, especially for vulnerable groups like children and the elderly, are becoming increasingly evident. Respiratory issues, allergies and overall discomfort have become an unfortunate part of our daily lives. The closure of schools and the directive for office employees to work from home due to smog further shows just how severe the situation has become. While the government has initiated measures, they are simply not enough to tackle the issue in a holistic manner. The authorities must come up with a robust mechanism to address the root causes of smog, including crop residue burning and industrial emissions. As responsible citizens, we must also play our part by adopting environmentally friendly practices and supporting initiatives that promote cleaner air. Additionally, increased public awareness on the importance of reducing individual carbon footprints can contribute to the collective effort.
I urge the relevant authorities to prioritise this issue and allocate sufficient resources to formulate a comprehensive and effective action plan. Our city deserves breathable air, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure a healthier and safer environment.
