Population explosion

KARACHI:

According to the recent census, Pakistan’s population is approximately 241 million. The annual population growth is six million, surpassing the total population of several developed countries worldwide.

The failure to control population growth has had serious implications for the country including worsening health challenges, food shortages, rising unemployment, etc. Being a developing country, Pakistan faces challenges with its healthcare system, which struggles to meet the needs of its sizable population. Consequently, there is a notable prevalence of malnourished children.

The combination of stagnant economic growth and a substantial population has contributed to a rise in child labour and an increase in crime rates. Pakistan is already running out of essential resources and will struggle to meet the needs of an ever-increasing population. Policymakers must proactively address population growth by raising awareness, particularly in rural areas, about the issues arising from demographic expansion.
