KARACHI:
Cornerstone rights are fundamental human rights that serve as the foundation for a just and equitable society. These rights are considered essential for individuals to live with dignity and exercise their full potential. While the specific list of cornerstone rights may vary, they typically include rights such as the right to life, liberty and security; freedom of expression; equality; and access to education, healthcare and clean water and sanitation. These rights form the bedrock of human rights frameworks and international law, guiding governments and societies in their pursuit of justice and fairness. Recognising and upholding cornerstone rights is crucial for fostering inclusivity, protecting vulnerable populations and promoting social progress. It requires the collective effort of individuals, communities and governments to ensure that these rights are respected, protected and fulfilled for all.
