KARACHI:
Discipline, often overlooked but universally crucial, is essential for individuals and societies. It brings order, like a ship needing a radar for direction. Personal discipline means self-restriction, ensuring faithful and regulated behaviour. Its absence can have catastrophic consequences.
Discipline isn’t just individual. It involves collective agreement on rules for a better society. It is rooted in self-realisation, resulting in suitable behaviour in every aspect of life. Parents and teachers play a pivotal role in instilling discipline, with the home being the primary training ground. Unfortunately, the modern era witnesses a decline in discipline as essential values such as obedience, respect, and duty are not consistently imparted to the younger generation. In this context, the role of elders becomes paramount—they must embody and exemplify discipline in their behavior and work to serve as inspirations for others. Obedience, the cornerstone of discipline, represents the fundamental lesson that individuals must learn. It sets the foundation for understanding and practicing discipline in various aspects of life.
In essence, discipline is greatly tied to personal development, the societal order, and the well-being of communities. It is a lesson that begins at home, extends into educational institutions, and resonates throughout one’s life, shaping character and fostering a balanced existence.
