Alarming lawlessness

KARACHI:

Sindh, once known as a peaceful land, has now become a place plagued by numerous issues such as the killing of women, kidnappings, robberies, theft, child abuse and much more. Not a single day goes by when don’t hear about a heartbreaking incident in the province.

Recently, in Sukkur, a mother of four children was found dead and buried in a house. According to locals, she was brutally murdered and buried in the house by her husband. This is not the first case; many such incidents, where women are mercilessly killed, raped and abused, are happening with alarming frequency. What is even more disheartening is that many such cases go unnoticed and unreported.

Women are not being treated as human beings in Sindh. Clearly, all the laws and legislation prohibiting these acts have failed to prevent these crimes. People across the province especially women are continuously faced with violence and abuse. Law enforcement agencies are nothing more than bystanders. The federal and provincial governments must take notice of the worsening law and order situation in the province and tackle it on an urgent basis.
