KARACHI, PAKISTAN:
The innocent Palestinians have endured brutalities at the hands of Israeli forces, resulting in the loss of countless lives. The recent inhumane practice of bombardment and missile launches on Gaza have turned the region into rubble, with a hospital targeted, leaving nearly 500 people including children, women and the elderly dead. The situation is heart-wrenching.
Despite the bloodshed, Western countries such as the UK, France, Germany and the US seem to endorse these practices by suppressing the voices of Muslims. These nations have cautioned their citizens against expressing solidarity with the grieving masses of Gaza, citing a desire to prevent disorder. However, it raises the question of whether they would show empathy and sympathy if faced with a similar situation. To exacerbate matters, the US has declared unwavering support for Israel, terming its tyrannical practices as “self-defence” and committing to provide ongoing support in the form of cash and weapons. The US has also vetoed against Palestine in the UN Security Council, blocking humanitarian aid. Many Muslim countries have spoken out against Israel. However, a concrete plan to liberate our brethren from the shackles of the Zionist regime remains elusive. It is worth noting that the role of Pakistan in this crisis has been surprisingly subdued. Despite being a vocal advocate for the rights of Muslims in Kashmir, Pakistan has refrained from releasing an official statement on the Palestinian crisis. Considering its significant position among Muslim states, Pakistan must actively contribute to the redressal of the war-battered Palestine.
It is a high time for Muslim states to stand in solidarity with Palestine, extending a helping hand to their brothers grappling with miserable circumstances. Iran has taken a firm stance, warning Israel to cease its attacks on Gaza, or face consequences. Organisations like the OIC can play a pivotal role in uniting Muslims for a collective response against Israel.
