Brain drain

Brain drain

KARACHI:

This letter is apropos to the editorial published in your newspaper. I would like to begin by saying that Pakistan cannot provide employment opportunities to highly skilled people. Therefore, it is beneficial for both the country and the people that the skilled individuals emigrate. This will reduce the unemployment rate and lessen the burden on the country in terms of population. Even uneducated and unskilled workers are seeking employment abroad, which can potentially increase foreign remittances.

However, the alarming increase in emigration can become a cause for concern for the country. Therefore, the government must address the present situation by implementing different policy measures. It should implement a strict one-child policy. It can incentivise low and middle-income families to have one child only by offering free monthly groceries, loans to construct houses with low interest rates, etc. Heavy taxes should be levied on the elites and untaxed sectors. Those who oppose government regulations should be faced with some form of penalties.

The country can recover from the present situation if it strictly implements the aforementioned measures. Countries like China and India implemented similar policies for a reason. It is these policies that allowed these countries to develop and thrive.
