Dearth of schools

Dearth of schools

KARACHI:

Khanki is a village situated on the border of Sindh and Balochistan, positioned 40 kilometres west of Jacobabad and 20 kilometres east of Usta Muhammad. The approximate population of this region is 20,000 residents. However, it is disheartening to see that despite 60 years of existence, Khanki lacks even the most basic amenities, including educational institutions.

Currently, there are no functional schools in Khanki, and a significant portion of the population consists of impoverished farmers who cannot afford to send their children to urban areas. Consequently, the youth in this locality are compelled to work as farmers alongside their parents. Even though the Sindh government established a school in Khanki, inadequate infrastructure and a lack of teaching staff have rendered it inactive.

The residents of Khanki implore the relevant authorities to direct their attention towards their plight. A crucial step would be to refurbish and reopen the abandoned school facilities. This will allow the forthcoming generations of this area to access education and pave the way for a brighter future. Civic and non-governmental organisations should lend the provincial government a helping hand in reviving educational facilities in the area. The youth of Khanki must not be ignored and should be given the opportunity to acquire knowledge and develop skills through which they bring change and progress to this region. Uplifting the local populations and equipping them with adequate resources will not only benefit the region but also contribute to the country’s development and progress.
