KARACHI:
K-Electric (KE) would like to share that there has been no significant change to the load-shedding regime for the city, details of which are available on the KE website. As of now, 71% of our network continues to receive an uninterrupted power supply. These are areas where bills are paid on time and electricity theft is low.
The remaining areas include regions where electricity is stolen and bills against actual consumption are unpaid. Load shed duration in these areas is up to 6 or 10 hours in proportion to the losses assessed in the area. The power supply can improve in areas where power theft is reduced and bills are paid fully and promptly. In this regard, KE not only appeals to citizens for their support but also regularly sets up facilitation camps to address customer queries. Regular actions are also carried out against defaulters and against those who are using illegal power connections to curb theft. The company extends its fullest cooperation to those who take a stand against power theft and support these efforts.
The rates of electricity charged to customers in their monthly bills across the country are determined by NEPRA and Federal Government under the ‘Equal’ or ‘Uniform Tariff Policy’. Under the prescribed mechanism, variations in the global prices of fuel used to generate electricity are required to be passed to customers in fuel charge adjustments. However, under the same mechanism, KE also passes on reductions in the cost of fuel to customers in their monthly bills. KE makes earnest efforts to inform customers transparently and actively about maintenance and/or shutdowns through their registered numbers via SMS. Additionally, customers can check their power status via KE Live App or WhatsApp service. Interruptions in supply arising due to faults should not be equated with load shedding.
