HYDERABAD, INDIA:

Apropos Naeem Sadiq’s article ‘Our self-designed brutality’, published in these columns on August 3, 2023. The case involving Rizwana, a minor girl subjected to brutal treatment and forced into labour instead of attending school, raises several critical issues that demand our attention and immediate action.

Firstly, the inhumane treatment of a minor girl is a grave violation of human rights. It is crucial that the family responsible for this heinous act be held accountable, and I urge the authorities to take appropriate legal measures to ensure justice. Secondly, this incident sheds light on the issue of parental responsibility. The parents of the minor girl share some responsibility in this tragedy. When parents are unable to provide proper education and nourishment to their children, they should seriously reconsider bringing new life into the world. It is also essential to understand the profound agony that the minor girl must have endured. Comparing her life with others of her age, it becomes evident that a nurturing environment are basic rights that every child should enjoy. Sadly, she has been denied these rights, leaving her in a state of suffering and distress. Eradicating child labour requires addressing the root causes, and family planning can play a vital role in reducing the burden on families and preventing such tragic occurrences. But this plea will ultimately fall on deaf years
