Kacha-Kashmore conundrum

KARACHI:

The Kacha belt of upper Sindh, particularly Kashmore, has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons. The region, known for its fertile land and agricultural potential, is now facing a troubling increase in criminal activities. This alarming situation has left the people of Kashmore and the entire country in shock, questioning the reasons behind this shift. A range of factors have contributed to this unfortunate transformation.

The absence of proper education, healthcare, and communication facilities has deprived the people of better opportunities pushing some towards criminal means for survival. Another crucial factor is the behaviour of law enforcement agencies (LEAs) in handling law and order issues within the Kacha belt. Tribal clashes and feuds are often not taken seriously allowing criminal elements to thrive without facing appropriate consequences. This leniency has emboldened criminals and created an atmosphere of lawlessness. The involvement of local leaders in criminal activities and tribal feuds has worsened the situation. This perpetuates a cycle of violence and inhibits effective law enforcement. The subordinate judiciary’s inefficiency in delivering timely justice has also contributed to the problem. Prolonged cases and delayed justice drive people to take the law into their own hands further fuelling conflicts and feuds.

To address these pressing issues and restore peace and order in the Kacha belt, several measures need to be taken. An empowered police administration equipped with sufficient resources should be deployed to curb criminal activities effectively. LEAs must treat all crimes equally regardless of their motivations and act promptly against the culprits. The authorities and local communities should promote peace and unity to avoid conflicts. Urgent reforms in the criminal judicial system are essential to ensure timely justice for the masses discouraging them from resorting to vigilantism.
