Political consensus

KARACHI:

Constant leadership changes have harmed Pakistan’s long-term economic growth and progress. The country’s recent deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has stirred conversation about the appointment of the current finance minister as the interim prime minister. However, some political parties are against the idea and have expressed their disapproval.

A lack of political consensus is the root cause of Pakistan’s perpetual economic downturn. Most leaders change policies and introduce new measures once they are in power. Sudden changes and disruptions have hindered the country’s industrial growth and prevented it from achieving any form of success in any sector. Much of the time, leaders undo previous policy measures for political point-scoring and optics. Resultantly, now the country is faced with many problems at once ranging from economic crisis, rising security issues, diplomatic tensions, etc.

All political parties need to prioritise the country and its people instead of focusing on their personal aims and agendas. They must realise that the country cannot achieve socioeconomic stability without political consensus. All political parties must sit together to form a comprehensive reformation plan and allow the party in power to complete its tenure and implement sound policy measures.
