KARACHI:
Around the world, water scarcity is becoming a growing concern due to emerging climate challenges, changing demographics, etc. Unfortunately, in Pakistan, most people have remained oblivious to this rising issue and paid little heed to the matter. Apart from the water shortage in our locality, we have been witnessing frequent water leakages on the roads due to Water and Sanitation Agency’s (WASA) inefficiencies.
Despite multiple repair attempts, many tube wells and pipes continue to leak causing severe water wastage. This has intensified water shortages in our locality and other adjacent areas further exacerbating the crisis. A major concern among the people is that the freshwater is getting mixed with sewer water at some spots, which poses serious health hazards for the residents. Regrettably, WASA’s response to residents’ complaints has been unsatisfactory. They claim to lack water supply pipes in storage seemingly dismissing their responsibility to address the issue promptly.
This alarming situation demands immediate attention and resolution. As the General Secretary of Anjuman e Ahylaan Upper Mall Scheme, on behalf of the affected residents, I earnestly request that the authorities take immediate action and thoroughly investigate and address this issue. Rectifying these problems is of utmost importance to ensure a steady supply of clean drinking water to the residents and prevent any further contamination that poses health risks. Water is a fundamental necessity, and the relevant authorities must ensure its proper management and distribution.
