Asia Cup cricket

Asia Cup cricket

KARACHI:

Cricket has always had a unifying effect on Pakistanis and has the potential to bring smiles to their otherwise lifeless faces amid a depressing socioeconomic situation in the country. The victories in 1992 World Cup, 2009 T20 World Cup and 2017 ICC Champions Trophy are a few cases in point. And now with Asia Cup just around the corner, let’s hope this event lives up to the expectations of uniting the whole country currently riven with political polarisation.

Given their current performance, I am confident that our boys will bring the Cup home. Don’t forget that we are currently second placed in the ICC ranking in ODIs. Even though we have had some unfortunate setbacks in recent times — like losing T20 World Cup final to England in November last year — our team has given us many blissful moments. And we are proud of this talented bunch of players led by Babar Azam whose capable lieutenants include Sarfraz Ahmed, Muhammad Rizwan, Fakhar Zaman, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, Shadab Khan, etc. Apart from bringing their top skills to the pitch to fight for every single run like true champions, they have also proved to be true Pakistan ambassadors off the field. They have given us all we want. We wish our boys well!
