Dangerous appeasement?

KARACHI:

With reference to an article headlined ‘Dangerous appeasement’ written by Zamir Akram in these columns, I wish to share my views. The writer describes “US appeasement” of India as “dangerous”. Whereas the fact is that it’s neither “dangerous” nor is it an “appeasement”.

India never became “dangerous” to any country. China disturbed the peace in South Asia with the 1962 War. If Pakistan’s views about India are correct, then why no other South Asian country — except for Pakistan — compete with India in terms of defence expenditure?

Further, the US and India had maintained good relations even in the Cold War period. A case in point is the 1971 War. Also, our first Prime Minister had been invited to address American Congress, though India was closer to the erstwhile USSR.
