University of Larkano

Letter July 20, 2023
University of Larkano

KARACHI:

Sindh cabinet has, in a recent meeting, approved the establishment of ‘University of Larkano’. However, one wonders whether the project will see the light of the day and start functioning properly, or it will meet the same fate as Quaid-e-Awam University and Sindh University’s campus at Larkana. The mentioned institutions have struggled for more than a decade, but have not been fully functional, suffering from insufficient faculty, lack of infrastructure and absence of accountability. For these reasons, teaching standard has been compromised and degrees have been made easy to get. Also, a number of colleges in Larkana, such as Law College and Elementary College of Education, have been lagging much behind in terms of teaching standard. Students get degrees without any hard work, as there are no checks and balances and the teachers seem indifferent.

Under the circumstances, it is a genuine concern as to how ‘University of Larkano’ would fare. I, on behalf of all students in Larkana and the adjoining areas, request the provincial government to ensure that ‘University of Larkano’ turns out to be a quality education institute. Additionally, I request the government to take steps to ensure quality education at all universities and colleges in rural parts of the province.
