KARACHI:
Gas loadshedding continues to cause troubles to Karachiites. The gas supply crisis has intensified in the city since the holy month of Ramazan — reportedly after a technical fault developed at Sawan gas field, resulting in a drop of 44mmcfd of gas. In some of the localities of Karachi, loadshedding of gas starts from 10pm and continues till 5am. Even where gas is available, the pressure is so low that people are unable to cook.
The areas worst-affected by gas loadshedding include North Karachi, North Nazimabad, Gulistan-e-Johar, Orangi Town, Korangi, Landhi, Baldia Town, Qaimkhani Colony, Liaquatabad, Hijrat Colony, Garden, DHA, Saddar, Kathore, Scheme 33, etc.
During Ramazan, the residents of Baloch Para Jahangir Road had staged a protest against gas loadshedding. The protest disrupted the flow of traffic from Guru Mandir to Teen Hatti. However, the authorities are never bothered by the people taking to streets in protest. As citizens of the country’s biggest city — one that is called the revenue engine of the country — it’s our right to enjoy basic facilities to live. The citizens of Karachi deserve urgent attention.
