Surging street crimes

Surging street crimes

KARACHI:

Islamabad, commonly known as the safest city in Pakistan, is experiencing an alarming increase in street crimes. Every day, a large number of theft and robbery incidents are reported in both commercial and residential areas.

Street crimes pose a threat to economic and social stability and cause fear among residents. The rise in criminal activities stems from the high rates of unemployment, surging inflation, poverty, poor law enforcement, etc. Just a few days, a friend of mine, who is a student from Bahawalpur was robbed at gunpoint in I-8 Markaz. Even though he registered a complaint immediately, the police were unable to trace the criminals and recover his belongings.

The rising lawlessness in the capital city requires urgent action from the capital development authority (CDA) and the police. CCTV cameras should be installed across the city so that the culprits and their vehicles can be identified and traced. Police patrolling must be increased across the city, especially at night. The relevant authorities must restore law and order in the capital to ensure the safety and security of all residents.
